This morning I delivered my Profit on Purpose talk to a group of business leaders at a gathering for Conscious Capitalism.
I shared with them the story of Karen, a woman just waiting to leave behind the drudgery of her current job to do the work she was born to do.

Every day I come across Corporate Escapees like Karen. They’re disillusioned and burnt out and they’re searching for meaning and purpose in their work. They’re either waiting for the opportune time to jump ship voluntarily or they’re being marched along the gangplank of redundancy.
Why, oh why, does it have to be this way?
What if Karen felt empowered to ‘come out’ instead of ‘get out’? By this I mean bringing out the ‘what you love’ and ‘what the world needs’ circles right into the workplace. It means bringing your whole self to work not just the bits required to get the job done and meet your KPI’s.
It means bringing your own purpose to work – BYO Purpose.
What if Karen also worked for a company that in itself had a Higher Purpose than profit? What if that purpose was truly a Collective Purpose, one that everyone took responsibility for?
