Who’s Going to Keep you Accountable?

One of the key benefits of my next Brave Women Writers’ Circle is the accountability I provide to help women write 20,000 words in 12 weeks.

Here’s why.

In the world of publishing, writers are accountable to agents and publishers.  In the world of media, journalists are accountable to editors and readers. In the world of advertising, copywriters are accountable to a team of marketers.

There’s always someone keeping writers on track to deliver their words to an agreed deadline.

There’s a reason these writers get paid well for their work.

They can write. And they can deliver on time.

But it’s not the same for most writers. Most of us don’t have another person keeping us accountable to deliver.

In the beginning, we’re so passionate about our project, we convince ourselves that we have enough self-discipline and self-motivation to meet our own self-imposed deadline.

We write with a fury and make great headway. We feel like we’re conquering Mt Everest without a guide.

Then something happens.

At around the 20,000-word mark (or sooner), we stop writing.

It’s not because we’ve lost the love for our project. It’s because we lose our mojo without support. We begin to doubt that our project has legs.

We might even decide it’s all wrong and go back to the beginning and start again. A rookie mistake that will never get us to the finish-line of that first draft manuscript.

Deadlines lapse. Life takes over. And the writing wanes.

I know this because I have five half-finished manuscripts lying around in my files. They’ve not been finished for a few reasons but mainly due to no accountability.

There are many ways to be kept accountable to your writing goal.

You can find a buddy who’s invested in your project like my cousin Susan who’s supporting me with Finding Elsie.

Or you can start your own writers’ group. Brave Women Write would not have seen the light of day if not for my writers’ group.

Or you can join a writers’ club in your state. Just do an internet search ‘writing clubs in (state)’.

Or you can join the next Brave Women Writers’ Circle which kicks off 31 January.

If this sounds intriguing, reply to this email with your phone number and I’ll give you a call.
