Any day now I’m expecting the delivery of Unstuck in Provence, the very raw and real book that I wrote in 2010. (I’m nervous to say the least!)
For three years the manuscript for this book remained a Word document buried in the bowels of my computer. Till now I lacked the guts to put the intimate details of my life (and my son, Billy’s) up for scrutiny. Many times I’d considered simply sending it to the trash and forgetting that I’d ever written it.
In reality, my story seems trivial and insignificant compared to the stories of the millions of women around the world suffering under far worse conditions than I’ll ever endure.
I believe that the most pervasive and systemic human rights abuse occurring right now in the world, is female genocide and gender inequality.
- One in three women are subject to physical or sexual abuse in their lifetime.
- Women account for 70% of the world’s population living in absolute poverty on less than $1 a day.
- An estimated 4 million women and girls are bought and sold worldwide each year, either into marriage, prostitution or slavery.
- In Australia, women earn 82c for every $1 a man earns. Globally women earn half of what men earn.
- Only 4.5% of the Fortune 500 CEO positions are held by women. In Australia women hold a mere 3% of CEO roles in our top 200 organisations.
Over the last 2000 years, men have created a patriarchal system designed to benefit men. This system is the cause of the current level of insanity that we find our world in. Sanity will only be restored through massive gender realignment and true equality, with the feminine traits of love, wisdom, compassion and humanity at the forefront of this revolution.
But this is not a women’s issue – it’s a human issue – one that can only be resolved in an inclusive way with the engagement of women and men and our families and children.
This is why I had to publish Unstuck in Provence. By sharing my story I hope to inspire you to shake off that thing that may be keeping you stuck and preventing you from having a life of meaning in service to others…and of course the millions of women that have no choice.
