Since giving up my old business some time ago, my days have been littered with an assortment of activities that have seemed in no way connected. One minute I’m publishing a paper on why marketing is broken and needs to be reinvented, the next I’m building the Conscious Capitalism community, publishing a highly private memoir Unstuck in Provence and running business seminars.
At times I’ve beaten myself up for my lack of single-minded focus and my many spectacular failures (and some successes), but mostly I’ve been grateful for being messy and allowing myself the opportunity to shake off my old business shackles and do what feels right. It’s been a wonderful opportunity to dig deep and explore what I love doing, what I’m good at, what truly serves others and what will make money.
What’s been so very apparent is that action precedes clarity. To have, and build, a business with a higher purpose that you’re passionate about, you must be prepared to be messy, be open to all opportunity, to try lot’s of things (not just talk about them) and be willing to fail…and get right back up again.
As a result of my messiness and willingness to fail, something big has occurred this month that sits right at the centre of my purpose to help others navigate this messiness too. I can’t share the details yet, but I will be very soon.
