I’m currently writing Community Rising: On love, belonging and togetherness. It’s consuming most of my waking hours and really starting to take shape – at last!
The book is a practical guide covering; why community is essential to the rebuilding of our society (now and post-pandemic); how we can each cultivate our own communitarian spirit and become a valued member of community; and how to start, lead and grow a successful community. It will also offer a collection of stories of our most loved communities and how they’re making an impact.
I’ve come to the conclusion that the word ‘community’ has an image and a definition problem and that it’s often misused and abused (particularly by marketers!). My aim is to redefine community, rejuvenate its image and elevate its status as a significant and enduring contributor to the health and wealth of our nation. Through my research and interviews to date, I’ve identified that there are essential secret ingredients that make a community tick and stick together. There’s an alchemy to community when these ingredients are right.
And this is where you come in. I need your help please.
