By learning you will teach, by teaching you will learn. Latin Proverb
After emerging from the industrial age we’re now firmly in the grip of the information age. Our world is awash with information. We’re bombarded with it 24/7. Never before have we had such incredible access to it. It’s almost impossible to discern what to take on board and what to let slip through to the keeper. Because of such unprecedented access to information, one could argue that we’re more intelligent than we’ve ever been as a society (or not).
When it comes to business, I’ve been observing the information and education market place with interest this past year. What I’ve observed is that we actually need less information and less rational intelligence (IQ) and more emotional and spiritual intelligence (EQ & SQ) coupled with active participation, deep connections and a totally new way of learning.
That new way of learning is called collaborative learning and it’s most effective when a like-minded community who share a common purpose comes together to learn and to keep each other accountable. Learning together creates a we world instead of an I world. It eliminates the competitive mindset that schools, society, institutions and the media have cultivated throughout the industrial age.
If, as business owners, we share a common vision to build a business with purpose that serves others and thereby becomes prosperous, then perhaps teaching and learning together will be the ultimate gateway to achieving collective and individual business success? I sincerely hope so.
And if, as parents and adults, we consider that collaborative learning is a valuable and worthy option for our kids and the next generation, particularly those about to face the work-force, then there’s lots we can do to become wicked role-models for them too. That’s why you may be interested in learning more from Simon and Remy, two smart young-men aged 16 and 17 who have founded The Co-Learners – a start-up dedicated to changing the status-quo of learning for their peers. If you’re keen to learn more, you’re invited to come along to their presentation next Thursday 8 May from 5pm to 6pm at The Hub Melbourne. Just reply to this email to RSVP. If you can’t make it, but would like to know more (no matter what city or state you live in), please respond to this email and I’ll add you to their mailing list for the next update.
Finally, if the whole notion of collaborative learning intrigues you and you’re excited about connecting with like-minded professionals and freelancers who also want to build a business with purpose, then I’d love to have you join me at one of my next full-day seminars in Melbourne and Sydney.
In addition to a new way of learning, I’m trialling a whole new pricing scheme of pay what you wish. At the seminars I also share the vision for the curation of a whole new type of learning school and community. I look forward to connecting with you and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
