Writing is a way to reinvent yourself; to make sense of the past, find ease with the present and create your desired future.
We write to change something in our world, whether that’s ourselves, our relationships, our organisation or industry or a cause such as gender inequality or ecological collapse.
When COVID hit, I wrote. When heartbreak hit, I wrote. When I learnt of the plight of the women in Afghanistan when the Taliban took over, I wrote.
Writing is a way to process and capture the affairs of my life and our world. It’s as essential to my mental health and wellbeing as healthy eating and exercise.
And it’s not just for making sense of tragedy. It’s for capturing the joy too. Two of my current writing projects are evidence of that; Love Stories of the Birrarung (a storytelling and community engagement project aimed at inspiring Victorians to love our Yarra River) and Between Two Hills (a chronicle of our tree-change and novice farming journey).
You don’t need to be knee-deep in an epic novel to be a writer. You just need to be writing regularly; a journal, poems, a screenplay, blogs, a non-fiction book, a memoir or whatever is calling you.
But there’s another ingredient that makes the act of writing even more palpable and transformational.
It’s when women come together to write.
Last week, we closed my first ever Brave Women Writers’ Circle. Over 12 weeks, ten women turned up to step bravely into their writing journey. Five of those women have already registered for the next circle which kicks off on Friday 28 July. That’s some kind of testimony to the alchemy created as women connect, share and write together.
If you have a story lurking inside, then the Brave Women Writers’ Circle is worth considering.
In this brave and safe space, you’ll write your story with 12 other women over 12 weeks to:
- Gain clarity on your central idea and set your writing goal with private mentoring from me.
- Become a better, braver, bolder writer with the practices of the book.
- Find your voice and write each week together over Zoom.
- Share your achievements and future intentions at a closing circle at our enchanting farm in Red Hill Mornington Peninsula Victoria.
- Be kept accountable to achieving your writing goal.
If this sounds intriguing, reach out for a call. I’d love to know what you’re planning to write and explore if the circle is right for you.
With love
