A Brave Space for Women to Write Together

Women have incredible stories inside waiting to be unearthed and told.

Stories of our own lost identity. Stories of injustice in our workplaces. Stories of our powerful female ancestors.

Unearthing these stories and writing them is an act of respect and reverence. It’s a way to pay homage to our own life, to our story and the other women who feature in our story.

It’s challenging to dig up these stories and write them alone. We don’t get started for a myriad of excuses; lack of time, fear of judgement or a belief that our words are just not that brilliant. Then there’s no accountability, no one else spurring us on to write.

So the story remains buried and unwritten—a constant niggle.

Brave Women Write would not have seen the light of day without my own Writers’ Group. These women pulled me out of the quicksand time and again and they kept me writing until the finish line.

As we approach the end of our first Brave Women Writers’ Circle, I’m more convinced than ever that women need other women to get the work of writing done. When we come together to write, we drop all the excuses and we start to believe that our story matters and has a place.

I’ve found that there’s a wonderful sense of relief found in circle. We discover that other women experience the same yearnings and the same blocks, challenges and doubts. Our private problems become shared problems and they lose their gravitas.

There’s also magic in the sharing of our stories. It’s no longer about me and my story. It’s about we and our story. We start to weave a beautiful and luminescent web where each story connects to the other and contributes to the collective.

Together, we have created a brave space.

If you have a story waiting to be told, I urge you to find a group of women for support. If it’s a writers’ group you’re looking for, click on the QR code in the front of Brave Women Write and you’ll see there’s an interview on how to get started with my own Writers’ Group and a guide.

If you’re looking for a more supported approach, the next Brave Women Writers’ Circle is coming in July. I’m just waiting to confirm how many current circle women will be committing to it before I make it public. If it sounds intriguing however, reach out for a call to discuss if it’s right for you.

It’s been such a privilege to be part of the first Brave Women Writers’ Circle hosted by Carolyn Tate. There’s so much wisdom in her book that comes to life in different ways when exploring in community with other women. The cadence of meeting and focusing on our writing and storytelling was a privilege I treasured each week. I recommend the opportunity to any woman ready to explore the stories brewing within her. Heather Jones, Principal + Founder, Priage Media
